SONIDOS DE LA TIERRA
Community and social development through music
It's a project for children and y
oung, created by Luis Szarán,through the formation of music schools, musical groupings and cultural associations, it facilitates the shortcut to the musical education to more than 3.000 participants of scarce resources, in 72 communities of the Paraguayan countryside.
Sonidos de la Tierra, is based on the concept of "education through the arts" began in 2002 in 18 towns, with support from the AVINA Foundation. Today, with alliances with more than 100 other local, national and international institutions, both public and private, the program reaches over 72 communities throughout Paraguay. Its supported also by public and private institutions like: National Parliament, FONDEC, ITAIPU Binacional, Philharmonic Society of Asunción, Embassies of Germany, USA, France and Italy, Partners of the America (Chapter Paraguay-Kansas), Municipality of Asunción Culture Department and others. More than 100 companies, municipalities, governments and sponsors conform the list of patrons in the benefitted communities.
In 2005, Luis Szarán received a Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship from the Skoll Foundation in California, USA, which has permitted Sonidos de la Tierra to extend its program into the neediest areas of the Paraguayan countryside. In the same year, Sonidos de la Tierra incorporated itself as a program of the Tierranuestra Foundation. Following the program's success in Paraguay, efforts are underway to take Sonidos de la Tierra's methodology and operating methods to other parts of Paraguay and the world, with the support of Plan International (Plan Paraguay) and Missionsprokur SJ Nürnberg.
